Gera Bemoans Congested Fixture List
Having to compete twice a week this season has already begun to take its toll on Fulham, according to Hungary midfielder Zoltan Gera.
The 1-0 defeat by Arsenal at Craven Cottage on Saturday was an unfair reflection on the Cottagers’ spirited performance – Fulham bombarded the visitors’ goal but the Gunners’ rookie goalkeeper Vito Mannone was in imperious form, giving a career-defining performance.
Much had been made about Fulham’s seventh-placed ranking last term, with some observers questioning whether the west Londoners’ relatively thin squad could cope with the demands of midweek European football as well as the daily bread of the Premier League.
“It’s been difficult this season because we are in Europe and we need to keep a balance to make sure we keep getting results,” Gera explained to The Sun.
“If we keep playing like this and putting in this sort of performance then we will not have anything to worry about. We were just unlucky.
“Their keeper made some great saves,” he said, commending Mannone.
“It was a good derby.”
